As you point out, single payer heath care is a no-brainer. I might add that the US has one of the worst and the most expensive health care system in the world. In fact the World Heath Organization ranked the US health care system 37th behind economic juggernauts like Columbia, Chile and Iceland and one notch above Slovenia.

On the subject of the elegance of the "free market." I heard one economist say that the "free market" means cheap labor for international corporations and that's the only ting that's free about. Put simply, we live in a world of abundance, and we have the technology to provide everyone with what we all need -- good food, health, a nice place to live ,even clean skivvies. The "free market" creates the scarcity which forces billions into poverty. I don't like the "free market." It is the enemy of most of the people in the world. ---wbblack
